Collings 290 Crimson / Black Pick Guard / Electric  The Collings 290 is, we assume, Bill Collings take on a '50's Gibson Les Paul Special. As with his acoustic guitars, Mr. Collings has not tried to reinvent the wheel with his new electric guitars. He knows that the greatest electric guitar designs came from the 1950's and '60's and they continue to set the standard.

That's why he has chosen to use the classic designs as a starting point and simply make them better. How successful is he? In a recent Guitar Buyer Magazine review the 290 got five out of five for body and neck, five out of five for hardware and parts, five out of five for playability, five out of five for sounds and five out of five for value for money.

We give it ten out of ten for being a classic guitar design for the modern world.
