From 1932 to 1964 John D'Angelico made some 1,100 guitars. (Three decades to make almost the same amount of guitars as PAF equipped Les Paul Standards made by Gibson in the 3 year period from 1958 to 1960.) D'Angelico made a range of archtop models with varying degrees of ornamentation, the highest grade being the New Yorker. Today John D's guitars are revered and the New Yorker models fetch prices rivalling the aforementioned Les Pauls. It all comes down to supply and demand.

Also rare (but not as costly as a house) are New Yorker models made to re-create John D'Angelico's masterpiece by the new D'Angelico company. These beautiful instruments are totally sensational, both in their sumptuous appointments and rich tonal quality.

Unlike the originals, which were (mostly) acoustic, this one comes equipped with 2 humbucking pickups, so as well as delivering the total Jazz look it also delivers the total jazz sound. Few guitars will ever do it all so well.
