Collings DS2H-AV 2004 Adirondack Top
Detailed Images   Detailed Images
This is Collings take on the first pre-war Martin D 28 from 1931. The the neck joins the Dreadnaught body at the 12th fret and Martin build only 41 of this model before changing to the 14 fret neck join in 1934.

The body is longer than the 14 fret model, there is more air to move in there and you get a rounder, fuller sound.

This is the kind of guitar that Norman Blake played for most of his career. It is a phenomenanal sounding guitar. And today, no one builds them better than Bill Collings.

The back and sides are East Indian rosewood. The grain has been chosen for straightness and we have seldom seen straighter grain on a guitar back. The top is the prized Adirondack spruce, which is hard to come by but is recognised by most experts as the best wood for a steel string guitar top. The neck is mahogany, with an ebony fingerboard. The fingerboard is inlaid with delicate diamond pattern MOP and the top is inlaid with the famous Herringbone pattern around the edge.

To find out why so many players are turning to this traditional guitar style for modern playing, you simply need to experience the sound this model can produce. We invite you to come in and experience the Collings phenomenon first hand. (You can also experience it with your other hand, if you promise to be careful.)
