Dobro Chrome body 1970's biscuit bridge and round neck
Dobro Chrome body 1970's biscuit bridge and round neck
This guitar, although quite recent, has a history longer than your arm. The Dopyera Brothers started the original National Guitar Company in the mid 1920's. Disputes with their business partners led to them starting the Dobro company in 1928.

Dobro, as everybody knows, was made from the first letters of Dopyera and Brothers. In 1932 the brothers regained control of National and formed National/ Dobro, producing both National Guitars and Dobro Guitars with varying degrees of success until 1966, when they sold to Mosrite.

However, in 1969 they bought the Dobro name back and started a company called Original Musical Instruments. This is one of the OMI Dobros. While not as collectible as the older Dobros from the '30's, it is indeed a fine guitar to play, with a beautiful funky sound.

This is because on the indide is is constructed like a National Guitar, not a Dobro. And it was made under the stewardship of the original Dopyera Brothers and they sure ain't making any more.
