Fender Stratocaster 1963 Daphne Blue

Now here's a guitar with attitude. It's a '63 L Series Stratocaster in Daphne Blue. As often happened, the Daphne Blue was sprayed over a sunburst in the Fender factory and as the Daphne has worn you can see the old sunburst showing through underneath. This has created a quite unique and beautiful effect.

You see, sometimes Fender would get an order for a custom colour from one of the dealers. If they didn't have that colour available and if there were no bodies ready for painting, they would simply take a sunburst body (they always had plenty of those) and overspray it.

The guitar has been updated with a five-way switch, which seems about the only thing to have been changed, however the switch tip is original. The knobs are original. The scratchplate is original and has no cracks. (Remarkable.) The headstock and logo are both in excellent shape.

The finish has all but gone from the back of the neck, evidence of a guitar that has been played a lot. Only the best ones get played this much. And once you plug this one in, you will realise it is one of the best ones.

The tones from all settings are rich, thick and powerful. It makes you think, "This is the way every Strat should sound."
