Fender Telecaster Thinline 1969 Natural

Here's a guitar that could get you commited. Yes, the Telecaster Thinline featured heavily in the film The Commitments and showed the world what a great and soulful sound the guitar is capable of producing. (Interestingly, the guy playing the guitar in the Commitments is now playing a busker with an acoustic guitar in a new film called Once.) However, the guitar he used in the Commitments was a '70's model and this one is far more interesting to players and collectors.

The Telecaster Thinline came out in late 1968. This one is from 1969, so it's very early. The body is ash and though it looks hollow it is really only hollow on the bass side of the body. This makes it lighter than most Tele's and also gives a bigger sound when played unplugged.

The guitar is in excellent condition, with only a few signs of previous use. There had been another switch added at some time which is now removed and the hole for this on the pickguard has been plugged with matching plastic, so it is hardly noticeable.

Fender made the Thinline for just over 10 years but changed the sound somewhat in 1972 by changing the single coil pickups to humbucking pickups. Vintage models with original single coil pickups have become so popular, Fender has reissued the model in their vintage reissue series.

You'll rarely see an original, early model in this condition.
