Gibson ES-335 1972 Walnut
When studying vintage guitars, one of the hardest areas is always the Gibson Serial numbers between 1966 to 1974. It is possible to have four different guitars with the same serial number spread over these years. Gibson kept turning over the number wheels with six digits over and over, instead of adding another digit or two. However, in say that, this smart ES-335 is an easy date!
The guitar features the "Gibson" embossed pickup covers that were used in 1972. Why did Gibson offer these pickups in 1972 and not later? It's a mystery.
The rest of the guitars is just as cool. The finish is a beautiful Walnut stained lacquer on maple and has lovely grain. The knobs are the typical "Witch Hats" . Necks from 1972 are round and quite full and has nearly all the finish intact. Block inlays with the bound fingerboard help raise more excitement. Add the factory fitted Bigsby and original case and it's all go!
Oops, don't forget the Squashed Frog on the peg head ... :)
