Gibson ES-5 Switchmaster 1959 Sunburst Tripple Pickup

The ES 5 was promoted as the electric version of the L5 long before Gibson actually made an electric version of the L5 and was the first electric guitar offered by any company with 3 pickups.

The earliest versions had P 90's and the different pickups were dialed in with a knob, not a switch. Soon the guitar got a switch to let you choose each pickup individually or 'all'. This guitar certainly gives its all when you ask it too. It is a beautiful thing to behold and to play and hold. It can rock when you crank it up and it can make pretty sounds when you feel like making them. And everything in between.

1959 also stands as a watershed year in the annals of guitar making. A lot of great ones were made in '59 by all the US makers. After '59 came a lot of so called 'improvements' that often were detrimental. So here we have one of the last great ones, in excellent condition.

There have been some changes. The guitar has had a light overspray, to freshen up the finish. This is fine and has done no harm to the sound or the looks. The original PAF Humbucking pickups have been changed to early '60's Patent number pickups. They are fine pickups and they sound as good as the PAF's, we think. Of course, the guitar is priced accordingly.
