  Gibson Hummingbird 1978 Natural
Gibson Hummingbird 1978 Natural
Now here is Gibson's first bird of paradise, the Hummingbird. Leon Russell even wrote a song about this guitar. (Well, that's how we read it, at JRG. Although some think it was a love song to a girl he called his 'hummingbird'. Terry Hannagan definitely reckons it was written to his guitar.)

This bird is clean, with a spruce top and mahogany back and sides, finished in Natural flavour lacquer. Hummingbird... To guitar lovers it's an exotic bird indeed. John Hiatt reckons the Hummingbird is the greatest rock and roll acoustic guitar ever made. And says, If you don't believe me, ask Keith Richard's.

The Hummingbird is not a boomy, old fashioned guitar, its volume comes from the compression on the notes, a result of the great design, and it really speaks with authority, without needing to shout to get attention.
