  Gibson Johnny Smith 1968 Sunburst
Gibson Johnny Smith 1968 Sunburst
By the end of the 50's, with his career at its peak, Johnny Smith met with the design staff at Gibson in Kalamazoo to create one of the most sought-after archtops of modern times: the Gibson Johnny Smith Model.

With it's handcarved bookmatched solid spruce top, highly figured tiger flame maple sides and neck, handcarved bookmatched flame maple back, ebony fingerboard with mother of pearl block fingerboard and peghead inlay, 7-ply body binding, 5-ply peghead and fingerboard binding, 3 ply back binding, bound f-holes and a bone nut, it is a sight to behold.

Original hardware includes engraved gold-plated tailpiece, solid ebony bridge with abalone inlay in base, gold Kluson Sealfast tuners, gold floating Johnny Smith humbucking pickup with jack mounted to pickguard, correct quintuple-bound tortoise pickguard, original truss rod cover with "Custom" imprint.

This guitar has clearly been loved by it's previous owners, and as such shows some playing wear on the back of the neck and on the fretboard, but overall it is in amazingly good condition given it's age.

It is a real joy to play this instrument, and is a must for any serious Gibson collector, or the next big jazz player to use at gigs. Superb!
