  Gibson Pat Martino Custom Sunburst
Gibson Pat Martino Custom Sunburst
Pat Martino began his professional career playing guitar on hit records by Bobby Rydell, Chubby Checker, Bobby Darin and many others. However, as a young boy, he had been introduced to jazz by his father, meeting Wes Mongomery and John Coltrane. Their influence led to him playing jazz full time and he was soon recognised as one of the giants of modern guitar, with the kind of chops that make other guitarists shake their heads and awards fall like hail. The awards keep coming. In 2004 he was awarded Guitar Player of the Year by Downbeat Magazine.

After playing a variety of guitars throughout his career (and who doesn't), from a Gibson 175 to a Parker Fly, these days Pat is only seen playing his fabulous Gibson Custom Shop Pat Martino Model. This is a guitar described by the custom shop as 'limited' (meaning number not scope) and we are honoured to be able to offer this one from the early years of the millenium.

It has a cherry sunburst finish and in shape reminds us of the L5 S, the solid electric L5 of the '70's. (A guitar that was also used by Pat in those days.) This one is not solid, it has a hollowed mahogany body and a whopping slab of solid maple, with f holes, on the top. The maple is finely figured. The neck is mahohany, the fingerboard ebony. The pickups are the famous '57 reissue Humbuckers. And the headstock narrows at the top, so that all the strings are in a straight line from the bridge to the tuners.

Sound wise, the guitar will do anything a Les Paul will do but has the extra dimension of a hollow body, which adds a little ES 335 influence to the tone. A beautiful and rare piece.
