  Gibson SG Cherry 1971
Gibson SG Cherry 1971
Detailed Images   Detailed Images
Back in 1960 when the Les Paul (as we know it) became a double cutaway, slim bodied tremolo machine (Sound Familiar?). Fender were enjoying a major share of the electric market with the Stratocaster. A double cutaway tremolo guitar. The five year extended contract with Les Paul was halfway through. By 1963 Les Paul's name had disappeared. The Guitar was renamed the SG Standard.

The SG Standard had a few changes from the earlier Les Paul SG version, the Sideways Tremolo had gone, so to the original PAF pickups. The added Maestro vibrato with the Lyre and Gibson logo on the cover plate, added some class to the new SG Standard.

1964 saw the move from nickel to chrome hardware, 1966 Gibson discontinued the small treble side pickguard and pickup surrounds, to a full pickguard (known today as the Batwing Guard). This beautiful guitar ran until replaced in 1972 by the SG Deluxe.

With the exception of the Deluxe Grover tuners being added (Original Gibson Klusson Tuners in the case will cover the rear tuner fastener holes), the guitar is very original. Looking at the finish it is in amazing condition. The case is superb with an original Gibson Rain cover. A very cool addition to any collection ... Can be used on stage :)
