Back in 1960 when the Les Paul (as we know it) became a double cutaway, slim bodied tremolo machine (Sound Familiar?). The five year extended contract with Les Paul was halfway through. By 1963 Les Paul's name had disappeared. The Guitar was renamed the SG Standard.

In 1963 Les Paul's endorsement deal with Gibson ran out and the Les Paul Custom became the SG Custom and this is a Gibson Custom Shop recreation of the first year SG Custom.
