  National Style 4 Tricone
National Style 4 Tricone  The National Style 4 Tricone is a mythical, legendary and, when actually encountered, awe inspiring beast. It offers the sound producing system of three internal 'cones' made from spun aluminium. They work somewhat like loudspeakers, moving back and forward as they produce the sound transmitted by the vibrations of the strings. As National say, "It's the cone." The body is made from bell brass, the finest quality of that very useful metal. And the body also adds to the sound quality. The three cone system produces a warmer, less strident tone than the single cone system. As the inventor of the guitar, one John Dopera said, "It's the cone." Well, actually he said, "It flows like a river." And he was talking about the sound. The bell brass body is engraved on every flat surface with National's famed Chrysanthemum pattern and the whole body is nickel plated. The headstock is faced with grained ivoroid and has engraved Sloan tuners to keep the strings in line. The ebony fretboard is also bound in grained ivoroid and the inlay is diamond shaped mother-of pearl. All in all a sumptous guitar that National consider so special they gave the model its own numbering system. This is number 041. That's not many.
